The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department offers the Fluzone High-Dose flu vaccine for people ages 65 years old and older.
The high-dose vaccine contains four times the antigen of a standard-dose flu vaccine. A higher dose is intended to give older people a better immune response, which means better protection against the flu.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, people 65 and older are at a higher risk of serious complications from the flu compared with young, healthy adults. Older adults with chronic health conditions are even more susceptible to flu complications.
To get a flu shot, stop by the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department at 108 Lee Street East in Charleston or call 304-348-8080 to make an appointment.
