The Kanawha County Commission in partnership with the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department will continue “Project Last Shot” offering free flu shots to Kanawha County residents. A clinic is scheduled Tuesday, March 06, at St. Albans City Hall. The vaccinations are available from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
At a special meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 6, the commission approved the program in partnership with the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department, the City of Charleston, the Kanawha County Ambulance Authority, Yeager Airport, Kanawha Valley Regional Transportation Authority and Kanawha County Schools. KCHD is supplying staff to administer the immunizations and the Kanawha County Commission authorized the expenditure and payment for the cost of the immunizations.
The flu has become widespread and is a public health crisis. Health professionals predict the flu season may extend through May. Commission President Kent Carper stated, “The elderly and infants are particularly susceptible to influenza and should make sure they get a flu shot as it will help protect them from the flu and the seriousness of flu symptoms.”
